Over its possible meanings, over its relation to the text and the entirety of the book itself. He collects visual and written materials and describes the initial from its various sides. It deals with concepts that discuss the initial in connection with, for example, illustration, illumination, ornament, pattern, rubrication, or concepts related to the use of the initial in the book, marginalia, headings, chapter, and the like. Also the initial and its relatives such as emblem, calogram, hanko, seal, signum, signature and many others. QOD TYPEFACE FOR SLOVAK PLATES WITH VEHICLE REGISTRATION NUMBER

The visual style of the QOD font is based on sans-serif geometrically constructed fonts. It has a visually uniform stroke thickness and the characters occupy the same area. An important principle when writing for plates with registration numbers is that individual characters are well distinguishable from each other. That is why the letters have a more angular construction and the numbers are round. In the case of several characters, which could easily be confused in the tables with a normal font, their difference is emphasized. For example, B, S and 8, or O, D and 0. The uniqueness and distinctiveness of the characters is also increased by the selective use of serifs (C, G, I, J, L, S, T, 1, 7). The QOD font has three cuts (A, B, C), each adapted in its drawing and proportions to the sizes of the tables on which it is used. The font was created at the Department of Visual Communication of the VŠVU in Bratislava.

170 GRAMS OF HAPPINESS

Publication archives and organizes hockey pucks collected by my aunt's friend from Košice, Ľubomír Bateľ, from the World Hockey Championships since 1933—2021. It points to the puck as a medium of graphic design and uses it to explore the identity of hockey of each era. Winning years such as Czechoslovakia and Slovakia are supplemented with comments from the live broadcast of the match. The pucks changed over the years in terms of design and emblems that were designed. The content also includes an interview with the owner of the provided pucks. The whole publication is designed with my own custom typeface PUQ created particularly for this book. The publication was made as my bachelor project.

PUQ TYPEFACE

The PUQ font was created in Typolab at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava as part of a bachelor's thesis for the publication 170 grams of happiness — Ice Hockey Championships. The main character of the font is based on strokes in the shape of hockey sticks. The font can be used as both in text or subtitle. It contains special stylistic alternatives to avoid the collision of hockey sticks on the ice.

INITIALS SKETCHBOOK

This sketchbook for initials was created to help me understand them in a better way of their matter and use in other people’s view for my diploma’s research. Can they work by its own without any context or is the text for which they’ve been created needed? These sketchbooks were given to my classmates and teachers for their own exploration. They contain texts of the most searched words and their beginnings. The cover of the book contains empty places for the initials of the owner’s name and surname, so they can personalize it and make it their own.

MAGAZINE INITIALLY

“Initially” is a phenomenological magazine that deals with the topic of initials from history to the present. It contains 9 articles such as the origin of early medieval characters or the purpose of initials in history to modern monograms. Each article uses a different type of design. What was before the beginning? Probably “the end”, just like the imprint on the cover. This magazine was created as part of the research for my diploma thesis.
